An Illinois man is dead as the result of a three-vehicle wreck on I-65 in Falkville.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) State Troopers identified the man as 52-year-old Jonathan G. Hopkins, a resident of Aviston, Illinois.
Troopers said Hopkin's 2015 Chevrolet pickup was struck by a 2012 Jeep Cherokee driven by a 38-year-old Huntsville resident.
The Cherokee then hit the 2013 Chevrolet ambulance driven by Lifeguard EMS-Morgan County. Hopkins was pronounced dead at the scene. The Huntsville man was taken to Huntsville Hospital.
Troopers said the wreck happened at about 6:40 a.m. Saturday.
Falkville Fire and Rescue posted about the wreck on Facebook at 7:20 a.m. to warn drivers that "I-65 Northbound (was) closed for an unknown amount of time" because of the wreck. They said the wreck was cleared at about 10:30 a.m.
The Morgan County Coroner also confirmed that Hopkins' wife was transported to the hospital. Her current condition is not known.
Fire officials said once the ambulance crew freed themselves from their vehicle, they "immediately began providing patient care to other victims."
While the ambulance crew was uninjured, fire officials said four patients were transported to local hospitals.
In addition to Falkville Fire and Rescue and the amblance staff, who were caught up in the wreck, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) State Troopers and the Morgan County Coroner's Office all responded to the wreck.
State Troopers are now investigating the wreck.
