Three local teams hit the field on Thursday for the State Baseball Championships.
The Lauderdale County Tigers needed a win in game two of the Class 3A State Championship series against Mobile Christian to force a decisive game three, but the baseball gods did not shine in favor of them today. They commited six errors on their way to an 11-0 run-rule loss as Mobile Christian claimed the state title.
In 5A, the Russellville Golden Tigers are looking to complete the 4-peat. That's still on the table, they're just going to have to work a little harder than they had probably hoped. They lost game one of their series opener 5-3 to Faith Academy and now must win back-to-back games starting at 10 a.m. CT tomorrow in order to keep that streak alive.
The Hazel Green Trojans were our lone victor on Thursday night, they beat Helena 5-4 to take a 1-0 lead in the Class 6A State Championship Series. Game two is set for 4 p.m. CT on Friday and a win would seal the deal.
