Las Vegas will no longer be holding all the cards when it comes to sports gambling, as The Supreme Court made it legal Monday for all states to partake, if they choose. A hot button issue here in Alabama, as we are one of the few states that still does not have a lottery.

New Jersey calling this a big win for their state as they pushed the issue and took it all the way to the Supreme Court. New Jersey believes sports gambling will help tax revenue and tourism.

According to the Associated Press, 14 states  will legalize sports gambling in their state within two years and 19 states will have it legalized within 5 years. Alabama's fate is not yet known as we are waiting to see what our state legislature will decide.

The NCAA was also against it as they previously supported the federal law that prohibited it in most states.
Today the organization's Chief Legal Officer released this statement acknowledging the new law and saying:
"We are still reviewing the overall implications to college sports, we will adjust sports wagering and championship policies to align with the direction from the court."

SEC Commissioner, Greg Sankey, also released a statement saying:
"We are aware of today's ruling by the supreme court and we will monitor the developments closely as they occur."

WAAY 31 left messages with Governor Kay Ivey's office as well as several state representatives to see where in the process Alabama is and also to see if they had any comment on the new law, but we have not yet heard back.
