Monday was the first day back in school for Wilson High School students, after the tragic deaths of three of their classmates.

WAAY 31 spent some time at the school where numerous counselors were on hand.

"I don't think you ever get over anything like this, but we will get through this," said Wilson High School Principal Gary Horton.

Counselors throughout the Lauderdale County school system are at Wilson High School trying to help students through their grief after losing Braden Turner, Tyler Nelson and Coby Hines on Thursday in a car accident on County Road 30 in St. Florian. Two Florence High School students, Kate Boggus and Kaylee McGee, were also in the car. They are both still in the hospital.

"Individual kis have individual needs. Some may want to cry and some may want to talk and our job is to make sure we listen," said Horton.

Students also spent time making signs for the boys visitation that will be Tuesday in the school's gym.
Counselor Anita Watkins added, "They have moments where they break down and they need someone just to talk to them and to listen to them. They have had lots of activities - the posters, students are going into the gym and writing on posters, I think that's a great out."

Watkins tells she believes writing out messages to the boys will help students cope. But the loss is felt not just at the school, but in the whole community.

"It's different when y ou don't see the kids in the hallway. You see empty desks in the classroom and it affects the kids deeply," said Horton.
