The Jackson County Sheriff's Office confirmed the body found during a search is that of Fred Swearengin. His family has been notified.
His body was sent to the state forensics lab for an autopsy. There's no cause of death at this time.
Authorities found a body while searching. They cannot confirm at this time that it is Swearengin.
An Alabama Law Enforcement Agency helicopter found the body in about 30 minutes on Wednesday.
The sheriff’s office says Swearengin was last seen leaving his house in his car on Jan. 5. His family notified the sheriff’s office on Jan. 8. He is charged with attempted first-degree assault.

The man accused of bringing a gun into the Jackson County Courthouse in September 2019 is missing.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Fred Swearengin, 72, was last seen at his home and has been missing for 3 weeks. He hadn’t been arrested yet.
The sheriff’s office says it is picking up its search for Swearengin at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning. Deputies found his truck Tuesday at the Skyline Wildlife Management area off Highway 79. The area is open to the public for hunting and hiking.
