A yearlong study conducted by researchers at Georgia State University concluded electronic cigarettes and other vaping devices are not effective in helping people quit smoking.
After sampling over 1,000 U.S. smokers, the study found those not using vaping devices were twice as likely to quit than those who did.
Jordan Medley has tried vaping in the past, but for him, it just hasn't worked.
"It might help for a little bit," Medley said. "It never helped me whenever I did it."
Medley believes that vaping actually has the opposite impact.
"I think it causes more people to smoke," Medley said.
But William Patrick, a former cigarette smoker, had a different experience.
"I can tell you from my personal perspective, I've been vaping for 4 years," Patrick said. "I do feel a lot better and I've gone from 24 milligrams of nicotine down to 1 and a half."
Patrick says because of his vape, he doesn't feel the urge to smoke as much.
"And I don't find myself vaping as often as I used to either, Patrick said. "...now I take a couple of hits and set it down because, I'm good."
The research study cited several reasons for their findings. One reason they claimed was the sudden switch to vape devices may not provide enough nicotine. They also believe the lack of information about vapes causes smokers to be confused on how to use the product.
