Nine children and one adult are dead after a crash Saturday, on Interstate 65 in Butler County.
The accident involved 15 cars after one car is believed to have hydroplaned.
Police said eight of the children were in a small bus from the Tallapoosa County Girls Ranch. Their ages ranged from four to 17.
The ranch provides a home for neglected and abused school-aged girls. The bus driver was pulled from the burning vehicle but the girls were not able to be rescued.
A GoFundMe has been set up for the Tallapoosa County Girls Ranch.
A 29-year-old man and his nine-month-old daughter were also killed but they were in another vehicle. The county coroner said the crash happened during the storms that swept through the state.
None of the other people involved in the accident appear to have life-threatening injuries. One woman is in a Montgomery hospital with broken bones.
The NTSB, in coordination with the Alabama Highway Patrol, is sending 10 investigators to conduct a safety investigation.
State troopers are asking people to send any videos or photos they have of the wreck to email@example.com
