Police and medics swarmed Alabama A&M University's campus Thursday morning after a reported shooting just off campus.

Huntsville Fire Department spokesman Capt. Frank McKenzie said 911 received a call about someone being shot in a fight on Meridian Street just north of campus around 11:15 a.m.

Huntsville Police Department spokesman Lt. Michael Johnson said police are not treating the call like an active shooter situation. According to Johnson, shots were fired in a fight behind a shopping center but first responders did not find anyone that was hit by gunfire. One person who was assaulted in the fight was at Huntsville Hospital, Johnson said.

When contacted just after the shooting call, an Alabama A&M spokesman said he was unaware of anything taking place on campus.

The university sent out a Bulldog Alert to students later that police had located a victim in the fight who was reportedly seen running toward Elmore Gym on campus.
