A concerned parent sent WAAY 31 a video of two students fighting in the hallway of Huntsville High School on Monday afternoon.

"The blows to the heads and really listening to the kids laughing that makes me about sick to my stomach," said Deb Stern who has a student at the school.

She told us she wasn't shocked seeing students fighting in the hallway of Huntsville High. Other parents we talked to shared her concerns, and Stern told us her son never told her about Monday's fight.

"He's become so desensitized to it," said Stern.

Parents told us they couldn't believe not only what they saw in the video but also what they heard.

"For them to be laughing about it, it shatters my heart," Stern said.

Stern told us she recognizes the man trying to break up the fight in the video as the school's principal.

WAAY 31 learned from Ferrell that superintendent Christie Finley is reviewing surveillance video from the fight. According to Ferrell, Finley is working to determine if protocol was followed and why administration never contacted her.

Finley released the following statement Tuesday afternoon:

"Late yesterday afternoon, two students at Huntsville High engaged in a brief fight. Do {sic} to the quick responses of the school principal, security, and SROs, the entire incident was over in less than a minute.

Huntsville City Schools is focused on making the most effective use of time for the education of our students. Disruptions to the school day will not be tolerated. Inappropriate physical contact and aggression such as fighting can result in suspension or expulsion and the district will look to impose the maximum punishment possible in order to maintain the integrity of the learning environment."

Stern hopes this doesn't become a regular thing this school year.

"I'm just absolutely flabbergasted. If we're off to start like this then it's very concerning."

Tuesday evening, the Principal of the school sent an email to parents:

"Good Evening HHS Community,

I am writing to inform you of an incident that occurred on our campus to make sure you have accurate information and dispel any rumors. Late yesterday afternoon, a brief fight broke out in the hallway between two students. I, along with our security team, were able to stop it in less than a minute.

I take any incident that disrupts our learning environment seriously, and we will not tolerate that kind of behavior at Huntsville High. Fighting can result in suspension or expulsion, and I will seek out the maximum punishment possible for those who violate those rules.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your support and assistance in keeping our campus safe for children.

Very Respectfully,

Aaron King, Ed.S.
Principal, HHS"
