Florence Fire: Family loses home and one person dead

Florence Police and Fire responded to the house fire call around 6:45 Sunday morning.

Neighbors say they're absolutely devastated at the loss of this family's home -- especially right before the holidays,

However,. there is still hope as one young boy has gone door to door for donations and so far, he's made an impact.

"The house down the street was totally engulfed in flames, I mean the flames were shooting really high," said neighbor Kathy Blank. 

It's a sight Blank thought she'd never see.

"That's the only word I can say is just shocking - it's devastating, it's christmas time, they've lost everything," Blank said. 

Her neighbor's home on Whisperwood in Florence appeared to be a total loss Sunday night. 

Florence police and fire crews say they got the call around 6:45 sunday morning -- and have been interviewing neighbors and witnesses ever since.

Police confirms one person unrelated to the family died in the house fire -- but no names are being releasing names at this time.

Amid the chaos -- there is some hope within this Florence community.

One teenage boy -- whose friends with one of the family members who lost their home --immediately jumped into action.

"Just raising money, helping a friend," said John Oliver Warren./ 

He grabbed his shoe box and went door to door -- asking people to raise money to help the family that lost everything this morning.

So far, they've gotten 750 dollars cash and gift card. They've also gotten an 100 dollar donation a a GoFundMe page.

Both Warren and Blank say they have nothing but hope for the family.

"I care about ya'll and I love ya'll...keep it together, everything will be okay," said Warren.

"They're in our prayers, all of them. We're just thankful that the three children and [their mom] got out," Blank said.

A deadly house fire is under investigation in Florence. According to Florence Police, crews responded to the house fire in the 100 block of Whisperwood Trail at 6:45 Sunday morning. 

Fire crews stayed on the scene making sure all hot spots were contained throughout the morning.

Right now, police are also working to interview witnesses and the home owner. Police have confirmed the one fatality inside the home was not a family member who lived at the residence. 

The victim's name is not being released at this time.
