Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn identified a rock quarry contractor as the victim in a drowning Friday afternoon.

Matthew Asherbranner, 31, of Morgan County was operating a large piece of equipment about 50 feet above Gum Pond Rock Quarry near Hulaco, Chunn said. The equipment fell off a bluff and into water that was about 60 to 80 feet deep, he said.

Morgan County Sheriff's Office deputies, Morgan County Rescue Squad and multiple volunteer fire departments responded to the scene, according to the sheriff's office.
