Updates as of 5:30 PM Monday :
The Morgan County Sheriff's Office said Sheriff Ron Puckett is en route to the command post it set up at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Neel. The sheriff's office said Puckett has been in the area throughout the day as deputies search for Carson Peters. The church that's being used as a staging area is located about 3 miles from where the murders happened.
Mike Swafford, sheriff's office spokesperson, said the Special Response Unit and an ambulance will both sit at the church until Peters and April Hanner are located. It's unclear what charges if any Hanner is facing and how the two know each other. Neither the sheriff's office nor Decatur Police have said why they believe the two are together.
WAAY 31 talked to one woman who told us her property is very close to where the murders happened. Tayler Garza, said she wasn't home last night, and when she heard about what happened she decided to contact the sheriff's office.
"I'm going to have them look at my house. check out my property make sure everything is clear before I take my baby home. It's a bunch of trees and a bunch of property. People out here normally have at least an acre of land," she said.
Garza said she is staying elsewhere until she gets the all clear from deputies and is told she can safely return home.
With Monday being Memorial day, many people are home from work. Swafford said he advises everyone to be alert and aware of their surroundings because it's unknown where Peters or Hanner are located.
"While this stemmed from a domestic incident based on what Decatur PD has been able to piece together, We don't believe he is randomly targeting anyone in the community, however, when cornered, someone who is running from law enforcement is dangerous and we believe him to be armed," Swafford added.
Decatur Police is in charge of the homicide investigation and the Morgan County Sheriff's Office is in charge of the search for Peters and Hanner.
Decatur Police shared with WAAY 31 Peters and the three victims are family, but would not say how they are related.
WAAY 31 will update this story when we learn more.
