UPDATE: Huntsville Utilities says service has been restored to the majority of customers. It says the outage was caused by a wreck.

Around 11:28 a.m., Huntsville Utilities says a vehicle hit a utility pole at the corner of Plummer Road and Johns Road.

"The vehicle broke a guy wire, which then became wrapped around a three-phase power line, causing a substation breaker to open," a statement Friday afternoon said.

FROM EARLIER:

More than 1,300 customers are without power in Madison County, as of 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Huntsville Utilities says crews are responding to the outage in Monrovia from Douglas Road south to Old Monrovia Road and from Jeff Road east to Research Park Boulevard. It says service will be restored as quickly as possible.

The cause of the outage is unknown. You can see the Huntsville Utilities outage map here.
