A man is expected to be OK after accidentally shooting himself in the hand at a Huntsville gun range.
A call on the accident came in about 11:41 a.m. Friday, said Don Webster, Huntsville Emergency Services spokesman. The man was taken to Huntsville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident happened at Bullet & Barrel on Leeman Ferry Road.
According to the shop, Range Safety Officers took care of the man until help arrived. The manager didn't want to go on camera or allow us to shoot video inside, but she said every person must read and understand a list of rules and regulations before even picking up a gun to use in the shooting range bay.
The manager told WAAY 31 an older customer was using one of the ranges Friday morning when he accidentally shot himself in the hand. She said Bullet and Barrel has Range Safety Officers in the bays at all times in case of an emergency, and everyone must obey and sign the rules and regulations list.
On the list, it says to treat all guns as if they are loaded, always point guns in a safe direction and keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot.
The manager of Bullet and Barrel said this situation is the exact reason why they make sure to have Range Security Officers inside the bays and outside of the store for any emergency situation.
