A Madison County man died overnight after losing control of his vehicle and crashing while fleeing from Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputies on University Drive in Huntsville, the office said.
Brian Potts, 39, of Madison County, fled when deputies attempted to take him into custody for outstanding warrants for reckless endangerment and attempting to flee and elude, said Brent Patterson, office spokesman.
Patterson said Potts lost control of his vehicle while traveling east on University Drive near Enterprise Way. He crossed into the opposing traffic lane and struck a deputy’s patrol vehicle that was traveling west on University Drive.
Potts’s vehicle left the roadway and he was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
The deputy suffered minor injuries.
The Huntsville Police Department is conducting the traffic accident investigation.
