Madison City Schools is seeking feedback on its proposed elementary rezoning plan.
The district’s new school, Midtown Elementary, will open in August 2021 with approximately 840 students.
Now, with the opening of the new school and growing enrollment, Madison City Schools is planning to rezone.
The district says many neighborhoods have not changed in the proposed plan, but for those that have, there will be an open house in August.
They say they've seen growth across every grade level last year, and they want to allow for everyone to have room at each school building.
Superintendent Dr. Ed Nichols told us he knows rezoning is not always the best, but they'll make sure you get the best of the best.
"Nobody wants to be rezoned and we know that. But, we want to be mindful of the fact that when we rezone, one of our goals is to be equitable across our district, socio-economically," he said.
The district also told us plans for new zoning for the middle school will start next month.
You can find a map of the proposed plan here and share your feedback here. The link to provide feedback will close on March 1.
The district will review the input and hold a public meeting in March.
