Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office identifies inmate charged for assaulting jail officer

UPDATE: Investigators have charged 21-year-old Dakota Brooke Hanvy with assault second degree.

The department says Hanvy assaulted the officer by hitting her in the nose and face with her fist. The officer was treated at a local hospital for her injuries and then released.

Hanvy was in the Lawrence County Jail for felony possession of a controlled substance and failure to appear.

A Lawrence County Sheriff's Office corrections officer was injured on Wednesday and required medical treatment for injuries.

The female officer was assaulted by a female inmate who hit her in the face with fists.

The inmate, whose name has not been released, will likely face an additional felony charge.

The sheriff's spokesman says they are still investigating, and the new charge will likely be filed in the new year.
