Huntsville Police confirmed the gunman died at the scene. Police said after he was shot, the man was immediately treated by first responders and died before he could be transported to the hospital.

Huntsville Police are investigating a possible gunman on the roof of a business on Andrew Jackson Way just south of Star Market.

Police said they received reports of a man with a gun on the roof of Ted's BBQ around 10 PM. They were able to speak with him on the phone, and said he eventually agreed to come down off the roof and talk with them.

But they said once he got down the ladder, he ran away.

Officers chased him, and said that's when he pointed a gun at them and police shot him.

Huntsville Police Lt. Tony McElyea said, "Our negotiators were working towards a peaceful resolution that's what we believed was happening, we believed he was coming down to give up and unfortunately he decided to point the firearm at officers."

The man's body has been transported to the state forensics lab for an autopsy.

We're still waiting for updates on the man's identity, why he was on the roof, and how many shots were fired. As of 5:30 AM, officers are still processing the scene.

Businesses that were asked to evacuate during the standoff have since been allowed to return.

Huntsville Police say they shot the man on the roof of the business.

Officers say negotiators worked with him to come down the latter.

They thought he was going to comply peacefully.

That was when officers said he pointed a gun at them, and they fired.

Right now, the man is being treated by HEMSI. We are working to learn his condition.
