Huntsville Police have arrested Bryant Davis, 23, for murder following an incident in a Waffle House parking lot at 4896 University Drive on Friday.

Officers responded to a call about a cutting at the business about 10:20 p.m., said Lt. Jesse Sumlin, police spokesman.

An officer leaving an extra-duty job in the area quickly responded and located Joshua Bankston, 39, in the parking lot of the business with multiple injuries.

Huntsville Emergency Medical Services responded and pronounced Bankston dead at the scene due to his injuries, Sumlin said.

Davis was located near the victim, and he was taken to the Criminal Investigations Division for questioning about events that led up to Bankston’s death.

Sumlin said investigators Bankston and Davis know each other, and that a verbal fight turned into a physical one, ultimately leading to Bankston’s death.

Davis was taken to Madison County Jail and charged with first-degree murder.
