HEMSI, United Way deliver gifts to local kids

For the last 9 years, the two organizations have partnered to spread holiday cheer.

Thursday morning, an ambulance was on a special mission at the Heart of the Valley YMCA's Early Childhood Education Center.

The ambulance will filled with Christmas gifts for nearly 50 children.

For the last nine years, HEMSI employees have collected toys to donate as a way of giving back during the holiday season.

United Way of Madison County helps choose the toy for each child and wrap the gifts.

Each child received a special gift, with their name written specifically on it.

Don Webster, with HEMSI, says the partnership is a way to let the children see them as community helpers.

“It’s a thing to show them we’re not bad people, ambulance, paramedics, health care people, people with flashing lights aren’t mean people, they give back. It’s a good deal and it’s a win win situation," said Webster.

The HEMSI employees also had the chance to go inside the center as the kids opened their gifts.
