Georgia tops initial College Football Playoff rankings

The College Football Playoff Committee released the first of six rankings on Tuesday night.

The College Football Playoff Committee released the first of six rankings on Tuesday night.

The Georgia Bulldogs topped the poll despite being ranked No. 2 in the Associated Press's top-25 poll and the team that topped those rankings, the Alabama Crimson Tide, came in at No. 2 behind Georgia.

It's clear those who voted on tonight's poll valued Georgia's wins over Notre Dame, who came in at No. 3 in the rankings, and their dominating win over No. 16 Mississippi State along with four wins against teams over .500 compared to Alabama's equally as unblemished 8-0 season to this point that features no teams currently ranked in the committee's top-25.

Here's a look at how the committee worked out the entire top-25 in tonight's initial ranking:
