A Franklin County mother is facing a child abuse charge after authorities say her children were walking alone covered in fecal matter while she was high.
Lauren Greaves, 21, is currently in the Franklin County Jail on a $100,000 bond facing child abuse after being arrested Friday.
Sheriff Shannon Oliver says it is one of the worst neglect cases he has seen in his career, as he says neighbors found the two and three-year-old wandering around Payne Creek Trailer Park.
"They actually ran out into the road and approached a person asking for food," Oliver said.
Deputies say when they arrived at the scene, they were able to find the children, who were only in diapers and covered in feces. They later found Greaves and believed she was high on drugs. Investigators have obtained samples to try and find out what substances she may have taken.
"It's hard to describe why somebody would neglect children like this," Oliver said.
The children were taken by the county Department of Human Resources.
