Update: Boaz police say an officer was patrolling the area of Bruce Road and East Highway Friday morning, and as the suspect's vehicle approached him, it made a quick turn without signalling.

Police say the officer turned around on the vehicle and saw it make another turn, causing him to lose sight of the vehicle. He notified other officers that he thought the suspect was trying to get away.

Bobby Ray Emery

According to the department, the vehicle sped onto AL-168 from East Highway, and the suspect began passing vehicles. Police say speeds rose to 120 mph, and the chase left Boaz and entered DeKalb County.

The department says the suspect eventually made it to AL-75 and began travelling north toward Geraldine. Troopers pursued the suspect in the area of DeKalb County Road 843.

Police say the suspect wrecked as he tried to make a right turn onto DeKalb County Road 20. They say when he tried to come back onto the road, he was blocked by troopers.

Bobby Ray Emery, 47, of Boaz, was arrested and charged with attempting to elude law enforcement, resisting arrest and reckless endangerment. Police say he will also be issued several traffic citations.

"I wish they'd relocate it. It's not a good place for it, obviously. One near miss and one hit in just the matter of 3, 4 years it's not a good location," said Tommy Henderson.

Henderson has lived off Highway 20 in DeKalb County for nearly three decades, and has seen his share of accidents.

But he said this one takes the cake.

If Bobby Emery would have come a little closer, he would have damaged a gas line that services several homes.

"It's got PVC pipe on this end, got a metal pipe that you can shake like that, it's just like caution tape," said Henderson.

Henderson says he's glad the chase finally came to an end, without injuries.

"The young man's got plenty of problems already and he just added to it by trying to flee," he said.

Emery is also facing felony drug charges and misdemeanor charges in DeKalb County, stemming from the pursuit, and felony charges on warrants issued in Etowah County in August 2019.

Emery is now in Etowah County Jail.

Alabama State Troopers, Albertville police, Geraldine police, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office and Crossville police helped in the case.

Original story:

A high-speed chase ended just before 10 a.m. Friday at the intersection of County Road 843 and County Road 20 in Geraldine, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.

A spokesperson for the department, Tyler Pruett, said the suspect wrecked and only had minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Pruett said the chase was initiated by Boaz police in Marshall County. The suspect will face charges in both counties, but will likely be going to the DeKalb County Detention Center to be booked.

According to Pruett, the suspect had multiple warrants for their arrest.
