What if... Alabama's record-breaking junior quarterback doesn't start for the Crimson Tide this year? Would he actually leave the university and football program? According to his dad, it could happen.
According to Bleacher Report, Averion Hurts, Jalen's father, said there is a chance that if his son doesn't win the starting QB job this season, Jalen will leave Alabama.
"Well, he'd be the biggest free agent in college football history," Averion told Bleacher Report.
Jalen was replaced by freshman QB Tua Tagovailoa during the College Football Playoff National Championship game this year. Tagovailoa led Alabama to another national title, and shortly after, the questions began about who would start at QB for the Tide in the 2018-19 season.

"I told Jalen, you f--ked up, you opened the door and put yourself in this situation," Averion Hurts told Bleacher Report during the exclusive interview. "Now it's up to you to dig yourself out."
Head Coach Nick Saban has not allowed Hurts or Tagovailoa to speak to the media regarding the upcoming season.
"Coach Saban's job is to do what's best for his team. I have no problem with that," Averion Hurts told Bleacher Report. "My job is to do what's best for Jalen—and make no mistake, Jalen is a quarterback, and he wants to play quarterback. He loves Alabama, loves Coach Saban and everything about that place. But he wants to play, and he will play…"
Teammates have responded to the rumors of controversy, coming out in support of Jalen.
"This whole thing about Jalen is going to be a backup or he's going to give up, it's all just completely bogus," said Alabama tailback Damien Harris. "Anyone who thinks he's just going to sit back and take it clearly doesn't know him."
