Boaz newborn tests positive for multiple drugs, mother arrested

A woman is behind bars after Boaz police say she gave birth to a newborn who tested positive for two banned substances.

Boaz police say a mother is behind bars after giving birth to a child that tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana.

Police say Montana Shrum was arrested Friday after a joint investigation with the Alabama Department of Human Resources.

Shrum was transported to the Marshall County Jail on a $20,000 bond.

The jail confirmed Monday night Shrum remains in jail.
