The Madison baseball team CEO told WAAY31 on Friday there is both a team name and location that swept the first round of voting, and it wasn't even close.

The top five team names were revealed on Friday morning:

-Comet Jockeys: “Rocket City” was put on the map for its cutting-edge aerospace development. Comet Jockeys is a celebration of our brave astronauts who explore outer space.

-Moon Possums: A scavenger at heart, these local critters are known for hanging around and having a good time with their family just like going to ballgame.

-Space Chimps: A tribute to Miss Baker, one of the first animals safely launched into space. She is buried on the grounds at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

-ThunderSharks: Mix the powerful thunder of North Alabama’s storms with the ultra-strong, sleek determination of the shark and you end up with the personality of our community: willing to attack any problem. Visiting teams won’t mess with ThunderSharks.

-Trash Pandas: Our community is known for engineering, and no creature in our galaxy is as smart, creative, determined and ingenious a problem solver –dedicated to the challenge at hand –as our local raccoons!

The groundwork for the stadium of the future baseball team is underway, but the team still needs a name. Team CEO Ralph Nelson tells WAAY31 there were over 16,000 votes for the top ten voting. Within the first three hours of the top five voting, Nelson says there were already 2,000 votes counted.

"There was one name that far outranked the others," Nelson said. "I'd call it a landslide."

Nelson also said that voters can no longer pick the name of the team's city or region: Madison, Rocket City, and North Alabama are not on the ballot this time.

"One of the three identifiers absolutely dominated the voting," Nelson said. "You can't even call it a landslide."

Denise Morris has her own favorite team name, but doesn't think the final name matters that much. She says the team itself is such a positive for the community.

"I think the name is going to bring people in just by itself, the fact that it is cute and creative, It's going to be memorable."

Morris is focused on the economic impact the team brings to Madison.

"You're going to bring in more tourism, you're going to bring in more businesses, and it's ultimately going to create more jobs."

The community has been the focal point the entire time.

"We said from the start we are going to let the community name this team and that's exactly what we are doing," Nelson said.

BallCorps, LLC. will not reveal what team name and locator received the most votes in the first round. The final team name will be revealed on September 5th.

You can vote for your favorite name here. You have until noon on September 3rd to vote.
