Even after identifying the victims as the mother and son of the man who killed them, police in Athens refuse to call this a case of domestic violence.
Police confirmed Billy Christopher shot his mother Betty Sue and his 10-year-old son Chevy while they slept this weekend.
Waay 31 asked police why they won’t call this a case of domestic violence, but they aren't saying much. As a matter of fact they’re not saying much about anything that happened in this neighborhood.
While police won’t confirm this as domestic violence there have been a surge of deadly domestic violence cases in Limestone County.
This month alone, there are already 8 confirmed homicides connected to domestic violence in Athens and Limestone county.
WAAY 31 asked Limestone County Sheriff’s public information officer what signs people should be aware of.
"It's more important that they pay attention to their families, friends and the people they spend time with. That's where the violence has occurred. Family members, married couples and divorced couples. It hasn't been where someone is going around and shooting people in our instances," said public information officer Stephen Young.
Family members and neighbors don't want to talk right now but they do tell me they are surprised because Billy Christopher seemed to love his family especially his son.
