Albertville High School's head football coach confirmed that an Albertville football player died Wednesday evening.

Chip English confirmed junior Keejay Blount passed away. He didn't pass away at the school. English said the football team plans on honoring Blount in some way.

English said: "He was a bright light to the football team and community... Blount was a natural leader, great teammate, and he worked hard every day!"

On Thursday, counselors were available at Albertville High for Keejay's classmates.

"You try to comfort them as much as possible, but really, it's a mix of emotions. The anger, the pain, the hurt," explained Coach English.

Thursday morning, a team of administrators, counselors and community members met with the team to help. Coach Chip English has only been coaching at Albertville High School for a little under a month, but said in his short time there, Keejay made a big impact.

"Often times, I would see him with his arm around another player and laughing, or picking them up or making sure that their day was better," said English.

Albertville City Schools Superintendent Boyd English said that Keejay could light up the world with his smile.

School officials say privacy rules prevent them from releasing a cause of death.
