The Alabama Wheelmen is raising funds for a non-profit group in Huntsville.
On Saturday, the cyclists competed in the "Dr. Stephen M. Gilbert Memorial Criterium." at Grissom High School.
Not only are they raising money for Safe Harbor Youth, but the Alabama Wheelmen are paying tribute to the co-founder of Dynetics, Dr. Stephen M. Gilbert.
He died last year, but was passionate about cycling.
"He got cycling started in a lot of ways here in Huntsville. He actually owned a peddler which is a bike shop in the 80's. He turned that over for someone else to run. Everything he did, he would start it and we're still reaping the benefits," said the secretary of Alabama Wheelmen, James Dawson
Sunday morning the Alabama Wheelmen will continue the race in downtown Huntsville.
Safe Harbor Youth provides resources and housing for victims of human trafficking and neglect.
