A Cherokee County woman is behind bars facing a felony chemical endangerment charge one year after giving birth to a stillborn baby.
Authorities say a grand jury indicted Ciji White, 33, of Cedar Bluff with the charge after the death occurred in November 2016. Investigators say they waited on autopsy results for almost an entire year. Results showed the baby tested positive for methamphetamine.
Following the indictment, deputies arrested White and booked her in the Cherokee County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
Sheriff Jeff Shaver says he believes this is the first case in his judicial circuit where a woman has been charged with chemical endangerment involving a death.
