On Wednesday, the Huntsville Police Department is investigating three Tuesday shootings, one of which ended in a death.
The death occurred late Tuesday night after police say a victim was shot at a Fuel City gas station.
Shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday, Huntsville police officers responded to Hwy. 72 and Mastin Lake Road after a woman said her husband was shot at the Fuel City nearby.
The victim, who later died, has been identified as James Edwin Jones, said Lt. Michael Johnson, Huntsville Police Department spokesman.
Jones’ wife said they left the area of the shooting to get her husband to a hospital, but crashed into a pole.
In the day's first reported shooting, about 3 p.m. Tuesday officers responded to the 4200 block of Chalet Circle. Johnson said Lequan Bailey, 36, and Wesley Etheridge, 33, were in an argument over a money debt when they fired handguns at each other during the incident.
A neighbor who heard the incident, but doesn't want to be identified, described it to WAAY 31.
"We started hearing a pop, pop, pop, and at first we thought it was fireworks. It didn't dawn on me there was someone 50 feet from me shooting. They were arguing and one of the neighbors pulled his gun out, and just aimed it towards the vehicle and shot. It was about 11 shots. Every bullet in his gun he spent."
Both men were arrested and each charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling.
An 18-year-old woman was the second shooting victim of the day.
About 5 p.m. Tuesday, Huntsville police responded to the 200 block of Binford Drive for a shooting in progress.
Johnson said officers arrived and found that the 18-year-old victim had been shot after a physical confrontation with a 16-year-old offender. The victim was transported to Huntsville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
The third shooting of the day occurred at about 9 p.m. Tuesday on Bonnell Drive after a man told police he and his ex-girlfriend had been in an ongoing dispute over personal property.
He said he was meeting her in the 4400 block of Bonnell Drive to retrieve property. When he arrived the victim said he observed another man armed with a handgun. The victim told police the offender fired one shot, striking him in the chest.
The victim was transported to Huntsville Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation is ongoing.
