The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a

* Flood Advisory for... Eastern Pontotoc County in northeastern Mississippi... Southeastern Union County in northeastern Mississippi... Northwestern Itawamba County in northeastern Mississippi... Lee County in northeastern Mississippi... South central Prentiss County in northeastern Mississippi...

* Until 300 AM CDT.

* At 1255 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding in the advisory area. One and a half inches of rain have fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Tupelo, Pontotoc, Baldwyn, Verona, Trace State Park, Tombigbee State Park, Saltillo, Guntown, Shannon, Plantersville, New Harmony, Pratts Friendship, Troy, Blair, Furrs, Sherman, Algoma, Marietta, Blue Springs and Endville. Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

* At 222 AM CDT...Doppler Radar estimates 2.5 to 3.5 inches of rain has occurred over the past 2 hours. Showers and thunderstorms will produce an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain over the next 2 hours.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Tupelo, Pontotoc, Trace State Park, Tombigbee State Park, Saltillo, Guntown, Plantersville, Pratts Friendship, Blair, Furrs, Sherman, Blue Springs, Endville, Branyan, Eggville, Kirkville, Jug Fork, Flowerdale, Rough Edge and Nixon.

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
