HUNTSVILLE, AL – The Huntsville Havoc looked like two different teams over the weekend falling at home to the RiverKings 5-2 on Saturday before rebounding with a 3-0 win over the Pensacola Ice Flyers on Sunday.


Saturday, February 11 – Mississippi RiverKings 5, Huntsville 2

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Mississippi RiverKings skated into Propst Arena and took it to the Huntsville Havoc coming away with a very important 5-2 win Saturday night.

Matt Whitehead scored on the first shot of the night for Mississippi with just 1:12 gone in the first period. The game would head to the first intermission with the RiverKings up 1-0.

Ray Ortiz tied the game at 1-1 early in the second period but it was all Mississippi after that. Tyler Hlookoff scored right after he came out of the penalty box with 2:42 left in the second and the RiverKings had a 2-1 lead after two periods of play.

The RiverKings completely dominated the third period as Mark Magnowski scored just 1:04 in the period and Mike Tuomi scored a with 1:36 gone as the lead jumped to 4-1.

Mike MacDonald added a powerplay goal for the Havoc with 4:51 remaining before Darrell Stoddard scored an empty-net goal with 1:41 left to seal the win.

The Havoc converted on just two of ten powerplay chances while Mississippi was scoreless in five chances. The Havoc outshot Mississippi 40-27.

Matt Hache allowed four goals and made 22 saves in the loss. David Wilson made 38 in the win.



Sunday, February 12 – Huntsville 3, Pensacola 0

PENSACOLA, FL- Just when the Huntsville Havoc needed a win the most, goalie Kevin Beech stepped up and made 25 saves in a 3-0 shutout over the Pensacola Ice Flyers Sunday afternoon.

Justin Fox got the Havoc on the board first when he scored a powerplay goal with 14:10 left in the first period. The game would remain that way through the first two periods of play.

Jeff Hazelwood added the second powerplay goal of the night for the Havoc with 15:18 left in the third and Brad Flynn added an unassisted goal with 5:12 remaining in the game.

Corey Milan finished with 19 saves in the loss as Pensacola outshot Huntsville 25-22.
