Huntsville, AL - Kevin Mitch is getting ready for quite a workout on Sunday. It's Super Bowl Sunday and that means chicken wings will be flying out the door at Baumhower's Restaurant in Huntsville.
"It's our busiest day of the year," says Mitch. "Every restaurant claims Mother's day is their busiest day. Super Bowl Sunday, guaranteed for us, is our busiest day."
Super Bowl Sunday is considered to be the second largest food consumption day of the year only behind Thanksgiving. And it's a super time for chicken.
The National Chicken Council estimates 100 million chicken wings will be consumed on Super Bowl Sunday. Just to give you an idea of how many wings that is, if you take each wing and stack them end to end, they'll wrap around the entire world twice.
At Baumhower's an average Friday or Saturday sees about 400 to 600 pounds of wings in the deep fryer. For Sunday, they're already stocking up to sell more than three times that amount.
"We got about 28 hundred pounds of wings, 50 cases of fries. We got in enough stuff to make about 50 gallons of ranch dressing," says Mitch.
Mitch says there's no question why football fans flock to Baumhower's to get their wings. "We cook 'em the right way. They're nice and juicy on the inside. Crisp nice bite on the outside," he says.
