One of the little known missions on Redstone Arsenal is security assistance. That's the process of selling equipment to other countries, and training foreign military's.
It's run out of the US Army Security Assistance Command, or USASAC. One of their big efforts right now is in the Ukraine, where soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division are working to train cadres of Ukrainian soldiers. Cadres are units that will then go and train other Ukrainian units themselves.
"You can't take the value out of any training. The training that we give them is substantial", said Sgt. Nicholas Jackman of the 6-8 Cavalry. Much of the equipment the Ukrainians use has Soviet origin, which means creativity is needed. "They'll take most random, beat-up pieces of metal and make something very great out of it", said Sgt. Jackman.
But at the end of the day, a big benefit of the program is the relationships soldiers build with their Ukrainian counterparts.
