We have an update about the death of Major General John Rossi, who was found dead in his home on Redstone Arsenal Sunday afternoon.

We have learned that Rossi’s family will remain on Redstone Arsenal for the time being, assisted by a military casualty assistance officer.

According to the Space and Missile Defense Command/ Army Forces Strategic Command Mrs. Rossi is originally from El Paso Texas, and the family is tentatively planning a memorial service at Fort Bliss, Texas.

The circumstances surrounding the death have not been released but we do know that the US Army Criminal Investigation Command has the case. They have not said that foul play is suspected.

The military is conducting the autopsy at Fort Campbell in Tennessee.

Rossi was to take command of the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command on August 2nd. He was to take over for the outgoing Lieutenant General David Mann who was set to retire but will now remain in his position indefinitely.

General Officers must be nominated by the President and approved by Congress and Congress will not go back into session until September. They will remain in session for only a few weeks until they break again in October.

Redstone Arsenal’s Senior Commander Lieutenant General Larry Wyche released the following statement:

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Maj. Gen. John G. Rossi's family," Lt. Gen. Larry Wyche, Army Materiel Command deputy commanding general and Redstone Arsenal senior commander said in a news release. "We share their grief during this time of loss. Our priority right now is to take care of the family, ensuring they have all the resources they need during this critical time."
