Off-duty Morgan County Deputy fires shot at wanted suspect at Walmart

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAAY) - Huntsville Police say an off-duty Morgan County deputy fired a shot at a wanted man outside a South Huntsville Walmart.

It happened around 1:30 Tuesday afternoon. 

Police say the deputy recognized David Horton wanted on six felony warrants.

He began chasing him inside the Walmart.

That chase eventually lead outside, where a shot was fired by the deputy, which hit Horton in the lower backside.

Police are investigating whether the shooting was intentional or accidental. 

The deputy claims the shot was accidental.

Police are reviewing security camera footage. 

Horton has been released from Huntsville Hospital.

He's currently in the Morgan County Jail without bond.
