NEW HOPE Ala. (WAAY) - Police arrested Timothy Goldsmith, 23, and charged him with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder after he went on a shooting spree at a party in New Hope Friday night.

Madison County Coroner Criag Wisenant released the name of the deceased shooting victim as 20 year old Joel Coleman.

Two others were shot and taken to the hospital. They were treated for non life threatening injuries.

The party was thrown at Andrew Walters home in New Hope for his 21'st birthday.

“We were doing a roast for me, a roast for my 21st birthday and we hear shots," Walters said.

Timothy Goldsmith had been asked to leave the party a half hour earlier, because of an ongoing dispute with Walters friend Jacob Anders.

“Eventually Andrew got him to leave, and he told me he had beef with me. I didn’t realize hed come back with a live gun trying to kill people,” said Jacob Anders

When Goldsmith came back, Anders said he was wearing a ski mask carrying an AK-47 and firing at random.

“I knew I was about to get shot by something so I dove into the back door and yelled tim is trying to kill us,” Anders said.

Eleven people were at the party. Most of them ran to hide.

“Joel and Josh stayed behind they didn’t believe it was a real gun and because of that Joel got killed," Anders said .

Joel Coleman was standing with his brother Josh Coleman when he was shot.

“Very calm guy, very relaxed a lot of people call him about there problems. He comes from a nice family christian family, four kids, college bound, had his whole life ahead of him. It isn’t fair,” Anders said.
