Teenage Bicyclist Killed in Accident - UPDATED

Huntsville, AL - Police are investigating an accident that left a Columbia High School student dead.

Investigators say the teen was hit by a car while riding a bike near the school's entrance in Research Park. 
 
The accident happened around 3:00 Thursday afternoon.

The teen was pronounced dead at Huntsville Hospital.

In a statement released Thursday evening, Superintendent Dr. Casey Wardynski said, “We were saddened by the death of a student at Columbia High School. I expressed our sympathy, thoughts, and prayer to the family, and would ask everyone to keep his family in their thoughts and prayers.”

Update 1:15 p.m. - Huntsville Police have confirmed the identity of the student. He is 15 year old Hunter Cantrell. WAAY 31's Tim Reid is following up this story and will have new information this afternoon.

Visitation: Saturday from 6p-6p at the Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, 1340 North Main Street, Arab, Alabama

Funeral: Sunday at 2pm at the Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel
