Scottsboro, AL - Jackson County investigators are asking for the public's help locating a wanted man.

On Thursday of last week, a Jackson County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant went to the home of John Roper on County Road 83 in Pisgah, and attempted to arrest him on an outstanding child support warrant. As part of routine procedure, the officer made Roper empty his pockets before handcuffing him. A small plastic bag containing a white powdery substance fell from his pocket, and the officer tried to pick it up. Roper shoved the deputy as he bent over, then ran out of the house and down the street. The officer pursued, but Roper was able to escape.

Monday, investigators obtained warrants against Roper for Escape and drug possession charges.

If you've seen John Roper, call the Jackson County Sheriff's Office at (256) 574-2610.

Roper is not believed to be dangerous.
