WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from grandparents in Alabama who wanted a court order to visit with their grandchildren.
The justices on Tuesday refused to get involved in the emotionally charged issue of parents' rights to prevent their children from seeing their grandparents.
The issue in the Alabama case was what standard judges should apply in deciding whether to grant visitation rights to grandparents. States are divided over whether grandparents must show the parents are unfit or some other serious circumstance exists, or whether they must prove only that visits would be in the grandchildren's best interests.
The case is E.R.G and D.W.G. v. E.H.G. and C.L.G., 11-311.
