Huntsville, AL - The U.S. Space and Rocket Center and Aviation Challenge want more local kids to experience Space Camp.
Flanked by officials from the Huntsville City and Madison County School Systems, CEO Dr. Deborah Barnhart announced her plan to have 1,000 local children between 4th and 9th grade visit Space Camp this summer.
Barnhart says the Space and Rocket Center will offer trips - at cost - for local students. She wants local businesses to step up and sponsor as many kids as they can for what she's calling the "Summer of Fun".
"For years, we've witnessed children everywhere else come here." Barnhart says. "We've seen the growth of the branding of Space Camp internationally. We've grown in stature, we've grown in educational mission and we've grown in robustness. Now, we need to bring our own children along with us."
"This is the Rocket City. We invented the space program" says USSRC Strategist Tim Hall. "The Summer of Fun is our way of making certain our kids have the same opportunities as those who come from the other side of the country and the other side of the world."
