Bridgeport, AL - Jackson County Sheriff's Investigators say a 26 year old man drowned Tuesday while trying to save his girlfriend.

According to Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen, the body of 26 year old Christopher Matthew Heaton of Jasper, Tennessee was found near the Bridgeport Ferry. Harnen says his office received a call from Bridgeport Police after someone witnessed a truck that had gone into the Tennessee River. Heaton, who was on the bank, jumped in to try to help, but was unsuccessful. The woman was able to swim to safety.
