Decatur, AL - Convicted killer Timothy Dewayne West tearfully apologized to the family of Hunter Blake McElroy. He begged for mercy from Judge Glen Thompson. But in the end, Thompson sentenced the convicted killer to life in prison.
There is a possibility of parole later on, but West will spent the foreseeable future in prison for his crime.
In December, a jury convicted West on murder charges. Prosecutors say he shot and killed McElroy in May of 2010. West's girlfriend is the one who got into an argument with McElroy. He was in another car stopped on Danville Road. The drivers pulled into a shopping center parking lot.
West came to the parking lot after his girlfriend called him. Shortly after he got there, West shot McElroy.
After his sentencing, deputies took West back to the Morgan County Jail. He'll serve his sentence in a state prison.
McElroy was 22. He was studying Aerospace Engineering at Calhoun Community College.
