An international competition to land a robot on the moon is about to kick off and Alabama's governor hopes to back the winning team in the competition.
The "Rocket City Space Pioneers" are a team led by Dynetics and comprised of Huntsville business partners. They will compete in the 30 Million Dollar Google Lunar X Competition for privately funded teams to land a robot on the moon.
"I hope that we can do something highly significant that begins to signify to the rest of the world that if you truly do want the best.....then you turn to the state of Alabama" said Governor Bob Riley.
The goal of the challenge is to safely land a robot on the surface of the moon travel 500 meters over the lunar surface and send images and data back to Earth.
