HUNTSVILLE, AL - All eyes on a famous family in Huntsville Sunday as the Duggars, stars of the reality show “19 Kids and Counting” made a stop in the Rocket City.
On Sunday, 17 of those kids, plus dad Jim Bob, visited Space Camp. They arrived at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center after helping tornado victims rebuild their homes in Birmingham.
They quickly suited up, stoked for their Space Camp experience. We spoke with Jim Bob Duggar, who says Space Camp is something his kids have always wanted to do.
Duggar says, “We've got a lot of kids interested in space, and who knows, we some future astronauts right in our own family."
He says there could be one in particular: "I think out of all of our kids, I think probably Jason, one of our middle kids, he's probably the most excited to be here. He loves science."
The Duggars checked out the Saturn V, and then took dizzying rides on different simulators.
U.S. Space and Rocket Center Spokesman Tim Hall says space camp is ideal for families like the Duggars, not only to teach their kids about science and space, but also to help them work together and try new things.
Duggar adds, “We home school of course, so we try to use every opportunity as a learning experience."
The Duggars liked Space Camp so much it looks like they're about to share their experience with millions. Duggar explains, “Originally, this was just going to be just the end of an episode of us being in Birmingham, but after our producer saw what wonderful things you have here, he said I think he's going to try to make this a full episode of ‘19 Kids and Counting.’"
The Duggars also made a stop at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Athens Sunday morning.
Jim Bob Duggar tells us the episode shot Sunday at the Space and Rocket Center will air sometime in January or February on TLC.
