Rogersville, AL - Around 50 police officers, sheriff's deputies and state troopers gathered at Joe Wheeler State Park Monday morning.
They showed up with a message.
"Our focus is to ensure the motoring public is buckling up and obeying all the traffic laws," says Alabama Highway Safety Coordinator Eddie Russell.
Russell says during the current "Click It or Ticket" campaign, officers will make sure all drivers know wearing a seatbelt is a must.
"There will be a zero tolerance. If you're not wearing your seat belt, you will receive a ticket," says Russell.
Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver knows the importance of wearing seat belts.
"You see a lot of fatalities and traffic accidents. According to result and records, wearing a safety belt reduces fatalities. It's very important," says Oliver.
Officers here say the campaign isn't designated to punish drivers. Instead, they want to make sure everyone knows the law and that wearing a seat belt while driving is not an option. It's a requirement.
The "Click It or Ticket" campaign runs through June 5.
