TUPELO, Miss. (WAAY) - The reward for information on a bank robber who killed a Tupelo police officer Monday has increased to $162,500.

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety has released a photo of the man they're looking for in connection with the robbery at BancorpSouth Monday afternoon. The surveillance photo was taken from a convenience store.

Office Kevin "Gale" Stauffer, 38, was killed when he responded to the shooting call. A second officer, 26-year-old Joseph Maher, was critically injured. Police said the officers were shot when they tried to chase the suspects' car.

A candlelight vigil was held in the city Wednesday night.

If anyone can identify the man or knows how to contact him, they are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-773-8477 (TIPS) or the Tupelo Police Department at 1-662-841-6491.

From the banks photo, it seems that the robber/killer is a black/negro person. I also noticed in the news clipping his race was not reported. Was there a reason for that oversight, or was because he was not a white/Caucasian? Just wondering . . . .
