CYPRESS INN, Tenn. (WAAY) - A Russellville woman died and a Lauderdale County man was badly injured in a Monday morning crash in Wayne County.

Brittany Marie Underwood, 25, was killed when the truck she was riding in left the highway and struck an old building, catching both on fire.

John Clark Burns Jr., 25, Florence, was driving the truck when the wreck happened. He was taken to Vanderbilt Hospital and at last check was in the intensive care unit.

The wreck occurred at 2:33 a.m. Monday, when the truck turned from Alabama 157 onto Tennessee 227. Tennessee State Troopers said the truck slammed into a block wall next to a building near the intersection.

Emergency personnel said the truck caught fire and ignited the old store building. Both the truck and the building were destroyed.

The cause of the wreck is still under investigation.
