FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. (WAAY) - Lincoln County Police held a press confrence Friday to give an update on six October murders near the Tennessee state line
Lincoln County Sheriff Murray Blackwelder announced that two suspects are in custody on unrelated charges in the Madison County jail. He said he is confident, when an evidence analysis report is completed through the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, charges will be placed on those two suspects in connection with the October murders.
"There is not a serial killer running loose. There is not somebody riding down the road deciding 'I think I'll go in this house and kill everybody'. Thats not happening," Blackwelder assured.
Blackwelder said the two suspects were placed in custody within 48 hours of the murders, but at this point are not charged in relation to the deaths of three women, two men, and a toddler. who were found at four different crime scenes between Huntsville, Ala. and Fayetteville, Tenn.
The Lincoln County Sheriffs Department requested that TBI expedite their evidence analysis. That request has been granted, and their evidence given a top priority classification.
"We feel confident in the direction we are going in, very confident," Blackwelder said.
